Crisp air. The sound of crunching leaves under foot. The smell of cinnamon, apple, and pumpkin baked goods. This post is dedicated to fall and everything you need if you are in the process of building a capsule wardrobe for your favorite season. Grab yourself a cup of something warm and get cozy while we talk about your fall capsule wardrobe.

The key to building a capsule wardrobe is finding quality, classic silhouette pieces that can be worn from year to year. It is best to stick to a neutral color palette or, if you are a lover of color, colors that complement each other and can be worn with the majority of things in your closet.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Blazer

I get so much wear out of my plaid blazer during the fall months. I love a good blazer because you can wear it in so many different ways. From a classic tee to a white button-up. Wear it with jeans. Wear it with a nice trouser. Wear it over a dress or skirt.

Again, if you are just building your capsule wardrobe try and resist the urge to buy anything that would not be considered neutral. Black, grey, navy, and shades of brown are perfect for colder months.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Wool Coat

On my very first trip to England, I walked into a shop in Windsor and hanging off a top rack in the back of the store was what I thought was the most beautiful winter white, wool coat I had ever seen. That was over 15 years ago, and I still own and wear that coat. When you buy good pieces and take care of them, they will last.

I get so much wear out of my wool coats. I also have one in camel and black.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Basic Tee

Having some really good basic tees in your closet is the best purchase you will make for your capsule wardrobe. You will wear them year-round! You can usually find some good quality ones for a reasonable price. It’s good to purchase them in neutral colors. I always have a black and a white one in rotation.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Ballet Flats

When I saw ballet flats coming back around earlier this year I didn’t know if I was excited about it or not. I always seemed to have a like/dislike relationship with them. It finally occurred to me why! Because I never owned a quality pair.

The ballet flats of my younger years were like walking around on pieces of cardboard. Anytime I would wear them it was like I could feel every pebble I stepped on. That’s why this time around I am going to invest in quality. For example, these black ballet flats from Nisolo that have a padded leather footbed and a rubber out sole.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Trench Coat

I have just recently purchased my first Sezane pieces and I am a big fan of this brand. This trench coat is oversized for a modern look with a classic collar. I love the checkered lining! It comes in several different colors.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Cashmere Sweater

I was a teenager when I received my first cashmere sweater for Christmas. It was a turtleneck sweater and was a beautiful red, cranberry color. I have loved cashmere ever since.

Cashmere is a wonderful staple that will be wearable for years. Quince has some wonderful Mongolian pieces right now for $50.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: White Button-Down

Button-down shirts are a big part of my work wear, but I also wear them a lot in more casual settings. No matter the season I always get the most wear out of my white button-downs. Loft has some really nice options right now.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Boots

There are several different options you might need depending on your lifestyle. Where you live and what you do every day are important things to consider when it comes to footwear.

I definitely recommend buying boots that you can get around in easily. These flat knee-high boots are suede and waterproof. Here is another knee-high pair I like but it is a heel. My mouth is watering over these ankle boots. I want them in every color!!!

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: White Sneakers

A good pair of white sneakers are important no matter what season we are in. These are not the sneakers that you wear to the gym. As a major trend in women’s footwear, a good pair of white sneakers not only looks modern with a pair of trousers, but your feet will thank you later. Sezane has a beautiful pair, as well as Veja or even Target.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Wool Trousers

I love that American, everyday fashion is slowly taking a turn and more people are wearing trousers. I love a well-tailored pair of wool trousers for fall and winter. Trousers look so sharp and add an air of sophistication. This pair from Sezane are high waisted and straight legged.
