SUNDAY SERMONETTE | WHEN IT FEELS LIKE GOD ISN’T THERE

Sometimes we get so use to what is going on around us that we can’t see the forest for the trees. We tend to let awesome things around us become so normal that they are no longer special.

I can’t meet with the Father without my little buddy!

A couple of years ago, my husband and I went to Wyoming with an organization to do ministry. We were sitting on an outdoor patio at a restaurant with someone that was local. We were surrounded by beautiful mountains. I said, “I don’t think I would ever get use to this view!” Seemingly puzzled, they said, “The view?” They had gotten so use to seeing their surroundings everyday that they no longer appreciated or even noticed the beauty around them.

Just because you don’t see some big move of God in your life or in your church, it doesn’t mean that God isn’t moving. It doesn’t mean that He isn’t being God Almighty.

When Jesus told the leaper to stretch out his hand to be healed, only a few people were standing around. Sometimes Jesus healed and fed multitudes at a time, and sometimes he met with a woman at a well who was drawing her water for the day all alone…..ostracized. Set apart from the prying eyes of everyone else. When the woman with the issue of blood was healed, no one else noticed that she had reached out and touched Jesus.

Jesus said to the Pharisees in Matthew 9:5,” For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?” We want to see this big move of waters parting when what God is doing is on peoples insides. We want to see this big “charismatic” worship service when God is speaking to someone that looks completely disengaged in a still, small voice.

Dare we ask the question, “Could it be us?” Maybe we are the ones absent from the services. Maybe we are the ones not drawing closer to God. That must be the answer, because we know……

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

Hebrews 13:8

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Deuteronomy 31:6

Just because you don’t “see” it or don’t “feel” it, that doesn’t mean that God isn’t working in your life or in the lives of those around you.

If you want to see miracles, draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8.) If you want some big charismatic experience, draw near to God. If you feel like God isn’t moving in your church or in your life, draw near to God.

That is the answer…..because He is ALWAYS there and He is ALWAYS moving.
